From Vision to Garment

Our Story

Ekole Fonjungo was born and raised in Tiko, Cameroon, where he completed his early education. After graduating high school, a transformative year at home led to his discovery of fashion design that sparked his deep passion for the craft which continued throughout his lone year at the university during which time, he taught himself sketching, producing numerous original designs. This passion grew even stronger when he travelled abroad to further his education.

Using the ample free time between arriving abroad and starting school, Ekole immersed himself even further in his craft; sketching, designing and developing a portfolio of creations he would later bring to life.

While attending Medical School, Ekole found himself increasingly drawn to his creative pursuits, often sketching new designs during classes and labs, most of the time at the disapproval of his professors. Despite excelling academically, his aspirations of becoming a physician were ultimately hindered by immigration challenges.

Awaiting a change of status, he pursued his creative passion by enrolling in Design School, while also simultaneously attending Nursing School. Spending countless hectic and gruesome days commuting back and forth the 45 minutes – 1 hour drive between Columbia, MD and Baltimore city, he balanced work, classes and labs at both campuses, usually transitioning from clinicals at a hospital to hands-on workshops at design school and then to work.

At Design School, he honed his skills in Menswear, Apparel & Fabric Technology, Fashion Art, Patternmaking, and Tailoring; culminating in the construction of his first suit, sports jacket, pants, shirt and eventual clothing line. His expertise in Design was further enhanced through additional workshops at New York City's FIT, as well as sartorial trainings in Italy.

With a particular interest and knack for Fabric science and Technology, a keen eye for rare clothes, which shaped and fueled his insatiable, obsessive passion for exclusive superfine clothes, Ekole eventually blended these diverse experiences into a distinctive design perspective.

After graduating from Design School in 2014, Ekole spent time developing his business concept and model while traveling the world for inspiration. In 2015, he launched Sartoria Haúse from Men-In-Suits, a venture he had originally started ten years earlier following a chance encounter at a courthouse in Washington, DC.

Ekole is an active member of several professional associations for designers, custom clothiers, ateliers, and retailers.

In the ever evolving and competitive world of design and fashion, he stays current with the latest techniques, traditions, and trends by regularly attending some of the world's leading fashion events in the US and Europe multiple times a year.

Though he currently resides in Baltimore City, Ekole calls Tiko home.
